Ned will recount Frank Oppenheimer’s, (J Robert’s younger brother) amazing high altitude balloon experiments in the late 1940’s that led to the discovery of the origin of cosmic rays. Before Frank’s experiments, the source of the high energy particles that rain down from space was unknown. Frank relayed the tale of this adventure to Ned in 1985, during the last few weeks of his life. Ned will also talk about how Frank’s discovery influenced his own artistic journey.
