Community Seed Exchange-Cultivating Living Soil in the Garden

A living, fertile garden soil needs the same things you and I do: Air, the Right Amount of Water, Nourishment, and Protection. We will look at each of these in turn, applying understanding of soil types, climate variations, exposure variations, etc. to our unique garden spots.

We will bring in the understanding (from Jesse Frost, “The Living Soil Handbook”) of the three basic principles; John Jeavons 50 50 rule; OAEC’s Process Based Restoration; and the practice of daily observation and patience.

Please bring a straight-sided jar with lid, filled ⅓ full with your sifted garden soil, either your native soil or soil from a raised bed. (Sifted just means no rocks, sticks or leaves.)
