DESCRIPTION:A Sebastopol-based veterinarian journeys throughout Sonoma and Napa Counties\, providing free animal care to help domestic violence survivors and their pets escape abuse together. Meet Mikko\, who endured domestic violence for years\, but had her dog as a source of unconditional love and strength. There is an underreported barrier preventing survivors from escaping their abusive partners and bringing their beloved animals with them. Witness veterinarian Dr. Sarah Reidenbach as she journeys to meet survivors and their pets in a retrofitted ambulance\, attempting to eliminate that barrier and shed light on the importance of the human-animal bond in crisis situations. \nCreated by the UC Berkeley School of Journalism\, the film’s creators will be present at the screening\, as well as the founders of non-profit Ruthless Kindness. The 22 minute film will be followed by a Q&A with the founders. Enjoy the Rialto’s large food and wine menu while you watch and support a good cause.

You will learn how to sustainably forage\, clean\, and prepare our beautiful California coast mussels – as well as an overview of the land’s history\, intertidal zone ecosystem\, and what it means to be a good steward of our land and waters. \nIf you haven’t experienced freshly foraged mussels\, you will be in for a treat! \nA post-foraging feast of mussels on the beach provides the perfect gathering spot to learn how to care for your mussels\, ask questions\, and enjoy the view. Everyone will have an opportunity to sample the bounty of what we harvested from the sea and share their takeaways from the tide pools. \nEach person will take home up to 10 lb of fresh foraged mussels to share\, recipes\, and instructions. \nMussel season starts in November\, don’t miss this magical experience.
