SUMMARY:College Planning Workshops
DESCRIPTION:The Sebastopol Grange is launching a College Access Program (CAP)\, which offers free college planning workshops and individualized counseling scholarships to West Sonoma County high school students. The focus is on first-generation college applicants and lower-income families. \nNearly every major university system\, including UC and CSU\, and nationally recognized private universities like Harvard\, Yale\, the University of Chicago\, now offers substantial financial aid to lower-income families. This aid often includes not simply tuition but room and board and living expenses. For many local students\, tuition is no longer the barrier. Skilled guidance through the college preparation and application process is. The CAP program exists to close that gap. \nCOLLEGE PLANNING WORKSHOPS: Two free college planning workshops will be held at the Sebastopol Grange Hall\, conducted by a professional college counselor with decades of experience in college admissions and student counseling. The first workshop\, on August 27 from 6:30-8:00pm\, will focus on an overview of college admissions today\, financial aid opportunities\, and advice on how to build a strong CV and college application. The second workshop\, on September 16\, also from 6:30-8:00pm\, will focus on applications to the University of California and the requirements for UC eligibility. Both workshops are open to all West Sonoma County students and their families. Grange membership is not required. \nCOLLEGE COUNSELING SCHOLARSHIPS: Two two-year counseling scholarships will be awarded to students selected from workshop participants. Each scholarship provides 20-30 hours of individualized one-on-one guidance — from sophomore year through college application filing. Applications for these scholarships will open in December and awards will be announced in February.\nFor more information and to sign up for the workshops\, visit sebastpologrange.org/scholarships-grants

SUMMARY:Flora & Fauna - Watercolor Course with Hannah Day at Bohemian Flowers Farm
DESCRIPTION:In this 4 week course\, participants will learn a unique approach to watercolor\, intended to alleviate the frustration that many experience when learning this beautiful yet challenging medium. The class will focus on strengthening one’s observational skills\, giving the artist a foundation off of which to build their paintings in a step by step layering process\, that trains the artist to see value and color \nOur subject matter will be flora and fauna – a sampling of plants and animals. These subjects are great for beginners and experienced artists alike; their organic shapes make them forgiving drawing subjects\, but their beauty can be a muse for life. \nThis class will work both from photographs and from life\, practicing observational drawing in addition to watercolor technique. With 4 class sessions\, participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills and build muscle memory with a medium that often feels like it has a mind of its own. \nAll materials provided. \nLocation: Bohemian Flowers Farm\, 121 Bohemian Hwy\, Freestone\, CA \nDates: Four Sundays – March 8\, 15\, 22\, 29 \nTime: 1 – 4 pm \nAges: Adults \nSkill Levels: All Levels

SUMMARY:Soul Motion®: Body Prayer every Sunday in person
DESCRIPTION:BODY PRAYER IS A FACILITATED EVENT DEVOTED TO INQUIRY INTO EMBODIED CONSCIOUSNESS THROUGH MOVEMENT. \nThis class is offered every Sunday morning\, and led by Zuza Engler or another teacher. It is usually attended by a vibrant & diverse bunch of welcoming and friendly people\, some of whom have practiced Soul Motion® for years\, while some ~ never before. \nWhat to expect \nGuidance and structure are part of every week’s class as we travel across the four landscapes of Soul Motion®:\nDance Infinite (prayer space)\nDance Community (ensemble)\nDance Communion (duet)\nDance Intimate (solo) \nPractices\, structures\, and points of view are offered to facilitate the journey. Participants are invited to travel across all landscapes\, not just their favorite one: dancing by oneself\, in duet\, in ensemble with several people and eventually the whole room\, or witnessing in stillness the beauty of another’s or of everyone’s dance. \nBody Prayer offers a place to be safely uncomfortable as we experiment with ourselves and with each other in our awkward and magnificent dance at the edge of possibility. \nNo experience necessary! Everyone welcome!

SUMMARY:A Reading in English and Spanish with Mónica de la Fuente
DESCRIPTION:Do you remember what it felt like\nwhen someone read to you as a child? \n¿Requerdas como te sentias\ncuando eras niño y alguien te leia? \n\nMany Rivers Books & Tea invites English- and Spanish-speaking families to join local author Mónica de la Fuente for an interactive reading of her mindfulness picture book\, “Something in My View”. More than a traditional story time\, this event will be a shared experience for children and the grown-ups who love reading to them.\n\nAt first glance\, the book is a simple story about bubbles. As the story unfolds\, children and adults are invited to discover something unexpected through curiosity\, conversation\, and reflection. Following the reading\, children will enjoy a bubble-inspired art activity. \nSomething in My View was inspired by Mónica’s many years of meditation practice and a desire to offer children – and the adults who read with them — a simple way to pause\, share a quiet moment together\, and notice what remains in that stillness.\n
