DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided tour of the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center’s demonstration gardens and living landscapes. Led by rotating OAEC staff\, these tours offer an opportunity to explore our diverse food\, medicinal\, pollinator\, and native plant gardens while learning about the ecological principles that guide our work. \nWhen: Tours start at 1pm every first and third Saturday of the month\, April through October. \nWhere: Tours start and end at the OAEC Nursery. 15290 Coleman Valley Rd\, Occidental\, CA 95465. Upper Driveway. \nImportant Information:\nNo registration required—just show up!\nPlease use the second driveway and park in the upper lot near the greenhouses.\nThe tour route includes steep hills and unpaved dirt and gravel paths. Sturdy shoes\, a brimmed hat\, and weather-appropriate layers are recommended.\nIf you require mobility support or have other accessibility needs\, please call ahead so we can accommodate you. Participants are invited to travel across all landscapes\, not just their favorite one: dancing by oneself\, in duet\, in ensemble with several people and eventually the whole room\, or witnessing in stillness the beauty of another’s or of everyone’s dance. \nBody Prayer offers a place to be safely uncomfortable as we experiment with ourselves and with each other in our awkward and magnificent dance at the edge of possibility. \nNo experience necessary! DESCRIPTION:In this 4 week course\, participants will learn a unique approach to watercolor\, intended to alleviate the frustration that many experience when learning this beautiful yet challenging medium. The class will focus on strengthening one’s observational skills\, giving the artist a foundation off of which to build their paintings in a step by step layering process\, that trains the artist to see value and color \nOur subject matter will be flora and fauna – a sampling of plants and animals. These subjects are great for beginners and experienced artists alike; their organic shapes make them forgiving drawing subjects\, but their beauty can be a muse for life. \nThis class will work both from photographs and from life\, practicing observational drawing in addition to watercolor technique.
