Composed and first performed in 1741\, this presentation in Sebastopol is the 29th year under conductor John Maas; with string quartet and trumpet\, and lead singers Christa Durand\, Elizabeth Henry\, and Benjamin Mertz. Concert on Saturday\, Decemer 9 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church\, 500 Robinson Road\, Sebastopol. Sheet music available for those who do not have their own; parking on site. Open rehearsal Monday December 4 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the north side dining room of Sebastopol Center for the Arts\, 282 South High Street. \nConductor John Maas has a particular focus on involving communities in singing\, and written more than 50 choral works performed throughout California\, the United States and Canada\, including by Occidental Community Choir\, UC Berkeley Repertory Choir\, Pacific Edge Voices/Pacific Mozart Ensemble\, Redwood Chorale\, Sonoma County Chamber Singers\, and Santa Rosa Junior College Choir.

DESCRIPTION:The current show\, WATER\, at Sebastopol Gallery\, encompasses a selection of current and past works by Sonoma County ceramicist\, Chris Boyd\, and Sonoma County expressionist painter\, Paula Matzinger.\nFrom small mountain streams to the Pacific Ocean\, Paula Matzinger is drawn to water. Water finds its way into many of Paula’s paintings\, from the reflection of light and color in the water of a small pond\, to the patterns of waves and foam on a beach\, to the glistening paths winding through a marsh.\nChris Boyd\, long time ceramic artist and teacher\, can often be seen at the coast collecting seaweed to decorate her thrown vessels and sculpted salmon.  She also incorporates cow dung\, saw dust and many dried materials like orange and banana peels and walnut shells to create the color patterns and smokey appearance absorbed into the clay. Our tides and rivers are reflected in her ceramics in the swirling appearance left by the fire.\nReception: December 9\, 4pm to 6pm.

Online auctions have long been a successful means of raising funds for our school’s specialty programs and highlighting the talents and services of our extended school community. \nFunds raised from shopping at our Waldorf Wonder Auction go to support public Waldorf education at Sebastopol Charter School through the school’s fundraising entity\, The Charter Foundation. \nThe Charter Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit corporation. We use the funds we raise to cover the gap in expenses between what the state provides and what it costs to maintain our school’s facilities\, hire high quality faculty\, and implement the meaningful Waldorf programming that makes up our curriculum. \nFor 28 years\, hands-on learning in the arts\, music\, and movement have helped our students to flourish\, and our recent move to a 20 acre campus promises a bright future for our school. And while we don’t all have the $5000 camera we feel we deserve\, we always have our phones\, with their own amazing cameras\, on or around us! \nThrough lecture\, demonstrations and discussions we will go over: Gaining control over your camera with basic settings\, compositional considerations; exposure\, focus\, shutter speeds\, choice of lenses\, panoramic\, close up photography\, portraits\, filters\, videos. All the fun stuff PLUS some great apps for fine tuning your images and turning on your creativity. And we can all go out and about to capture the Laguna with our phone cameras!!!!!!.
