Light refreshments provided.\nhttps://OpeningReceptionCharlesBeck.eventbrite.com \nExhibit Overview: Esteemed artist\, Charles Beck\, is featuring his large-scale paintings of Sonoma County’s coastal and inland areas in this new art exhibit “Sonoma County Landscape” on display at the Laguna Environmental Center\, September 9 – December 22\, 2023. \nArtist Statement: These paintings come from many hikes and long bike rides through the valleys\, coastal hills and cliff edges of Sonoma County. Although “places” are recognizable in some of them\, they are not a portrait of an area but more a collective vision and experience from my wanderings. As I paint\, many shapes and colors change over a long period of working on a canvas in the studio. Eventually\, but not always\, the painting elements coalesce into a good geometry and composition\, while the light and dark and the color all come together to make a good painting. If not\, despite countless hours spent on a canvas\, it all gets painted a solid white and I start again. \nAbout the Artist: Charles Beck is a longtime resident of Occidental and welcomes visitors to his home studio during Art at the Source\, Sonoma County Art Trails\, and by appointment. Beck has exhibited his artwork in galleries and museums across the state and the country. In 2005\, twenty of his large paintings were exhibited at Stanford University’s Center for Integrated Systems in Palo Alto. DESCRIPTION:This free organic compost event is organized by the Sebastopol Climate Action Committee. Residents from the Sebastopol area are invite to come between 9am-noon to load compost into their own vehicle. Please bring your own shovel\, gloves and containers/truck (some bags will be available for those that need them) Approximately 1/2 cubic yard per household. Compost will be available until the pile is gone. Please ask volunteers for help if you are in need of assistance shoveling and loading your compost.
