SUMMARY:Blessing of the Animals at the Playground Cafe
DESCRIPTION:All creatures great and small are invited to the Blessing of the Animals on Sunday\, October 5th at 1:00 pm at the Playground Café. This event is open to the entire community and welcomes not only pets\, but also stuffed animals and photos of beloved pets who can’t be there in person. The Playground Café is located at 500 Robinson Road in Sebastopol. \nThe event will include a special blessing for each pet\, honoring the joy and companionship they bring to our lives. Free treats will be available for canine friends\, and the Playground Café will be serving delicious food and drinks for humans to enjoy before and after the blessing. \n“This event is really about gratitude\,” said The Rev. Emily Hyberg\, an assisting priest at St. Stephen’s. “We’re coming together in community to acknowledge the unique role animals have in our lives\, whether that’s a dog\, cat\, bunny\, goat\, or a beloved stuffed animal. So\, everyone is invited to come and celebrate the gift of animals and the love we have for them.”

SUMMARY:"Unconditional" - A Documentary about Pets & Sebastopol Nonprofit Ruthless Kindness
DESCRIPTION:A Sebastopol-based veterinarian journeys throughout Sonoma and Napa Counties\, providing free animal care to help domestic violence survivors and their pets escape abuse together. Meet Mikko\, who endured domestic violence for years\, but had her dog as a source of unconditional love and strength. There is an underreported barrier preventing survivors from escaping their abusive partners and bringing their beloved animals with them. Witness veterinarian Dr. Sarah Reidenbach as she journeys to meet survivors and their pets in a retrofitted ambulance\, attempting to eliminate that barrier and shed light on the importance of the human-animal bond in crisis situations. \nCreated by the UC Berkeley School of Journalism\, the film’s creators will be present at the screening\, as well as the founders of non-profit Ruthless Kindness. The 22 minute film will be followed by a Q&A with the founders. Enjoy the Rialto’s large food and wine menu while you watch and support a good cause.
