SUMMARY:Train Talk
DESCRIPTION:Railroad historian and former Northwestern Pacific and Southern Pacific officer Fred Codoni will discuss the history of the railroad in Sonoma County\, from the early horse-drawn streetcars – ‘horse car lines’ – to the formation of the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railroad (P&SR) that went through Sebastopol. The current West County Museum in downtown Sebastopol was the terminal. Fred Codoni’s collection of over 14\,000 railroad images across this history represents a powerful and unique set of artifacts that bring to life an amazing century of change across transportation\, manufacturing\, and rural life. He has worked for the railroad industry since 1956\, and is the last surviving member of the Northwest Pacific Railroad. As a member of the Western Railway Museum\, Fred often ran P&SR passenger car No. 63 at the Western Railway museum at Rio Vista junction\, the only remaining operating car from that railroad. \nThis talk is a project from the Western Sonoma County Historical Society. It will be preceded by a short update by the society board about what is happening at the Historical Society.

SUMMARY:Free talk: History of Fire Departments in Western Sonoma County
DESCRIPTION:Decades ago\, small fire houses in Western Sonoma County used rooftop sirens to alert firefighting volunteers. These individuals left their fields and businesses at a moment’s notice to respond to emergencies. Today\, organizations use modern equipment and technology to provide emergency services to our region. A free talk by longtime firefighter will share the evolution and history from those early days to the present. Jack Piccinni\, who has fought fires in Sebastopol for over fifty years\, will share his stories and perspective from a lifetime of keeping us safe.  This free lecture is a project from the Western Sonoma County Historical Society.

SUMMARY:NBLA Holiday Open House Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:We have been having some version of this Holiday Open house event for over a decade. It’s a great time of the year to open up and share our space with the community and our friends\, hopefully make some new ones in the process. Our members also share a selection of their own works and available to discuss the process. There will be items for sale ranging from cards\, small notebooks to larger framed prints\, and everything in between. \nIn tandem\, a portion of our Corita Kent Spotlight Month will remain up through the month\, this includes the silent auction fundraiser with 27 items from 9 artists and organizations. The sale of these items are critical in supporting our annual fundraising goal\, and there are some amazing pieces featured\, including original signed and framed Corita Kent print\, and an original Jose Posada print that is over a 100 years old. \nFor a preview of the silent auction and to bid or buy early\, it’s all online at the link below\, and end’s 12/13:\nhttps://givebutter.com/c/coritarules \nWe would love to see some from our community come out and support the notion that “words matter” and the original social media still can get like’s and follows.
