A free talk by longtime firefighter will share the evolution and history from those early days to the present. Jack Piccinni\, who has fought fires in Sebastopol for over fifty years\, will share his stories and perspective from a lifetime of keeping us safe.  This free lecture is a project from the Western Sonoma County Historical Society.

Come join the community as Docent volunteer Laura Shafer shares her knowledge of the Pomo Indians — some of the original people of Sonoma County. How did they survive? Did they thrive? What did they eat? Did they grow crops? What were their homes made of? Did they interact with the other local tribes? What happened when Europeans and Russians arrived? Where are they now? Learn about the Pomo Indians on the evening of Monday January 27th at a free talk. Light desserts and beverages will be provided. The talk will be held at 6:30 pm on Monday January 27th\, at the Epworthian Hall in the United Methodist Church\, 500 North Main Street\, Sebastopol. This is a project by the Western Sonoma County Historical Society.

She was a student of Kyozan Joshu Sasaki\, Roshi for 40 years taking ordination in 2000 and supporting Myoko Ni Sorin\, a women’s practice center\, co-founding Dharma Heart Center and leading women’s retreats at various centers in the USA and Canada. Concurrently she has had a 50 year career as a professional dancer/choreographer/teacher and is the director of Downtown Dance/Art Space in Sebastopol. She is a graduate of the Sati Center’s Buddhist Chaplaincy program and continues to serve her extended Buddhist sangha as well as her local community. Her marriage of 52 years\, 3 adult sons\, and 3 grandchildren provide a rich and deep family life.

SUMMARY:Two-way radio class for emergency preparedness + free radios
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this free\, two-hour\, hands-on class on August 18 is to educate community members on using two-way radios for emergency communications when all else fails. By the end of the training\, you will have an additional form of communication to better prepare for future emergencies. \nFREE RADIOS: Each participating household will receive a free\, programmed GMRS radio! \nREGISTRATION: Limited seating – preregistration required. Go to https://sebastopolready.org/sncu-class-sign-up-form to sign up. Registration will close on August 11\, or earlier if all seats are filled. Please sign up early to secure a spot. \nAGENDA: The basic principles of handheld radio use will be covered\, including physical components\, radio etiquette\, licensing\, emergency communication\, and organizing your community. The class will then break into groups with trainers and begin hands-on instruction\, followed by Q&A.
