DESCRIPTION:Railroad historian and former Northwestern Pacific and Southern Pacific officer Fred Codoni will discuss the history of the railroad in Sonoma County\, from the early horse-drawn streetcars – ‘horse car lines’ – to the formation of the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railroad (P&SR) that went through Sebastopol. The current West County Museum in downtown Sebastopol was the terminal. Fred Codoni’s collection of over 14\,000 railroad images across this history represents a powerful and unique set of artifacts that bring to life an amazing century of change across transportation\, manufacturing\, and rural life. He has worked for the railroad industry since 1956\, and is the last surviving member of the Northwest Pacific Railroad. As a member of the Western Railway Museum\, Fred often ran P&SR passenger car No. 63 at the Western Railway museum at Rio Vista junction\, the only remaining operating car from that railroad. \nThis talk is a project from the Western Sonoma County Historical Society. It will be preceded by a short update by the society board about what is happening at the Historical Society.

These five women are in Sebastopol through a U.S. Congressionally sponsored program- Open World. This program brings professionals from former Soviet and developing countries to the U.S. to experience our form of governance and to study focused topics. This particular group’s focus is “Serving Children in Time of War” and “Establishing Child and Family Counseling Networks”. During their two week stay they will visit schools\, social service agancies\, and meet with the people who organize those services. They will also meet with elected officials- City Council\, County Supervisor\, State legislators\, and U.S. Representative Jared Huffman. There will also be some tim for sightseeing as well. \nAt this presentation\, the delegates will share their experiences in Ukraine and some of their initial impressions of their U.S. visit. \nThis event is free and open to the entire community. Light refreshments will be available.

The Press Fest 2025 will feature apple tasting\, demos of apple pressing using an antique apple press\, garden walks\, docent tours\, plant sales\, live folk music\, picnic grounds\, and more! The plant nursery sale will include heirloom fruit trees and perennials\, and advice in building your productive and beautiful 2026 garden from tree experts. The antique cider press will be operating from 11 am onwards\, and apple tasting will start at 11:30 AM. We will collect votes for the tastiest local apple variety! Music from local folk band Jam Nation will begin at noon. Docent tours will occur throughout the day. Slow Food Russian River volunteers will also be operating reservation-based apple pressing on the only free community press in the United States. Join us to celebrate and help build our green future together! Press Fest at Luther Burbank Farm is a project by the Western Sonoma County Historical Society.

Instructor Bill Phillips will lead a free two-hour introductory session in Ki Development and Ki Aikido—a practice that helps unify mind and body\, reduce stress\, and improve your response to life’s daily challenges. \nNo experience is needed\, and there’s only very light physical contact. This workshop is designed for adults of all ages and abilities\, with a special welcome to those interested in mindfulness\, conflict resolution\, graceful movement\, or staying grounded and centered as we age.
