SUMMARY:Ladysmith Black Mambazo
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 14\, 2023 \nDoors: 6:00 PM\nShow: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM\nAges: 5+ \nGeneral Admission: $35\nVIP: $65 (VIP seating + 1 drink ticket)\nStudents: $10 (limited quantity) \nSouth Africa’s Five Time GRAMMY Award winning singing group\, Ladysmith Black Mambazo\, was founded in the early 1960s by Joseph Shabalala\, then a teenage Zulu farm boy living on the lands just outside the small town of Ladysmith. In naming the group\, Joseph used his hometown to honor his family history. The word Black is reference to the black oxen\, the strongest of the farm animals he worked with\, so to announce the strength of the group’s vocal singing. Mambazo is the Zulu word for chopping axe\, a symbol of the group’s vocal ability. A radio broadcast of a Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert\, in 1970\, opened the door to their first record contract\, the beginning of a recording career that includes over seventy albums\, earning nineteen GRAMMY Award nominations and those five GRAMMY Award wins\, more than any other World Music group. Those albums are: Shaka Zulu (1988)\, Raise Your Spirit Higher (2004)\, Ilembe (2009)\, Singing For Peace Around the World (2013) and most recently Shaka Zulu Revisited: 30 Year Anniversary Celebration (2017).

SUMMARY:Dirty Cello at Hopmonk Sebastopol
DESCRIPTION:The Dirty Cello band spends a lot of the year on the road\, but loves coming back home to the North Bay for a yearly show at the Sebastopol Hopmonk. Recently returned from the east coast and Florida\, the band is scheduled to play on March 2. \n“We always love playing at the Sebastopol Hopmonk since we use it as a focal point of the year to take all the random and wacky adventures we’ve had and get some songs together\, and put on a fun show for the audience\,” says Rebecca Roudman\, the band’s vocalist and cellist. “We’ve even got a new song about an aggressive note someone left at a concert calling the men of our band\, scruffy and dirty\, while complementing my choice of clothes.” \nThe 5 piece Dirty Cello band will be putting on a concert that’s a little different than some of the shows at the Sebastopol Hopmonk. There will be chairs for the audience to sit in\, general admission for the entire concert\, and the show starts at the fairly early hour of 8 pm and doesn’t go too late. The band is known for highly energetic shows that also involve lots of stories and audience interaction\, all while being comfortable and informal. According to Strings Magazine\, the band’s live shows are described as:”Anyone who’s been in an audience when the San Francisco Bay Area Dirty Cello takes the stage knows that something unique happens whenever cellist Rebecca Roudman and ensemble come face to face with living\, breathing (and whooping and shouting) fans.”

SUMMARY:NBLA Holiday Open House Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:We have been having some version of this Holiday Open house event for over a decade. It’s a great time of the year to open up and share our space with the community and our friends\, hopefully make some new ones in the process. Our members also share a selection of their own works and available to discuss the process. There will be items for sale ranging from cards\, small notebooks to larger framed prints\, and everything in between. \nIn tandem\, a portion of our Corita Kent Spotlight Month will remain up through the month\, this includes the silent auction fundraiser with 27 items from 9 artists and organizations. The sale of these items are critical in supporting our annual fundraising goal\, and there are some amazing pieces featured\, including original signed and framed Corita Kent print\, and an original Jose Posada print that is over a 100 years old. \nFor a preview of the silent auction and to bid or buy early\, it’s all online at the link below\, and end’s 12/13:\nhttps://givebutter.com/c/coritarules \nWe would love to see some from our community come out and support the notion that “words matter” and the original social media still can get like’s and follows.

SUMMARY:Sebastopol Charter Waldorf Wonder Auction
DESCRIPTION:The holiday months are almost here\, and we’re setting about to make our school’s fundraising as fun as possible! Online auctions have long been a successful means of raising funds for our school’s specialty programs and highlighting the talents and services of our extended school community. \nFunds raised from shopping at our Waldorf Wonder Auction go to support public Waldorf education at Sebastopol Charter School through the school’s fundraising entity\, The Charter Foundation. \nThe Charter Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit corporation. We use the funds we raise to cover the gap in expenses between what the state provides and what it costs to maintain our school’s facilities\, hire high quality faculty\, and implement the meaningful Waldorf programming that makes up our curriculum. \nFor 28 years\, hands-on learning in the arts\, music\, and movement have helped our students to flourish\, and our recent move to a 20 acre campus promises a bright future for our school. All of these efforts were made possible by the dedication of our past and present families and extended business community.

SUMMARY:Edith Piaf: Beyond Paris Skies
DESCRIPTION:From her beginnings as a child singing on the streets of Paris to becoming an international star\, Edith Piaf is undoubtedly the voice of French music. Much of Piaf’s music resonated with her own personal life as she specialized in Chanson and Torch Songs about love\, loss\, and sorrow. Belovedly known as “The Little Sparrow” Piaf ascended beyond the skies of Paris to World-Wide fame through timeless classics such as Padam\, Milord\, L’Accordéoniste\, and La Vie En Rose. \nSonoMusette\, featuring native Parisian singer Mimi Pirard\, transports us back to mid-1900s Paris through the evocative songs of Edith Piaf. This is the Paris that still lives for many of us in our memories… and in our imaginations. Mimi Pirard’s powerful and emotional interpretations of these classic songs provide a freshness and excitement that is faithful to the spirit and tradition of the original versions. The formidable musicians of SonoMusette weave musette accordion\, piano\, guitar\, upright bass\, and drums to create a musical tapestry for these enchanting songs and melodies. The concert will also feature a set of music made famous by other iconic French performers of the era.\nClose you eyes and be transported to the heart of Paris. \nMimi Pirard – vocals\nRobert Lunceford – accordion\nJan Martinelli – upright bass & piano\nIsaac Vandeveer – guitar & bass\nKendrick Freeman – drums

SUMMARY:Sing\, Paint\, Love
DESCRIPTION:Surrender to the flow of sound through your bodies instrument\, quiet the mind and find your natural state of bliss. Gather with community to sing ourselves alive and send peace within and without. An evening of Indian Note singing practice on presence\, Devotional Chants and sacred english songs with Kiranjot Kaur and Kim Atkinson. Watch Rachel Balunsat as she creates live paintings in the resonant field of the group singing experience. Ceremonial Tea will be served and shared. \nKiranjot Kaur is a Vocalist\, founding member of CopperWimmin\, Kundalini Yoga teacher\, Indian Classical music teacher and a devotee of the Divine Mother. Copper Wimmin were featured on Democracy Now and their song Bleeding Rivers was featured on the Showtime Television series The L Word. In 2006 Kiranjot refocused her career around Indian classical music and spent five years living and studying under the guidance of her beloved teacher Dr. Ustad Narindar Singh in Amritsar\, India. No longer interested in performance where the audience is separate from the performer\, Kiranjot brings together her early experiences of community singing with Sweet Honey in the Rock and Bobby McFerrin with her love of Indian Classical music and the Kirtan tradition. From her travels through India to Chile and back she discovered that her favorite thing in this world is using her voice to inspire everyone to use their voices for quieting the mind\, surrendering to presence and revolutionary self-love. \nKiranjot invites everyone to be transformed by the healing power of their own voice as well as the practice of singing together as ONE. \nKim Atkinson:\nAs a professional percussionist\, Kim has worked with Master musicians and Dancers from the US\, Africa\, the Caribbean and Brazil since 1976. He has performed at such prestigious venues as the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival\, Brazilian Grand Carnaval Balls\, Stern Grove Summer Music Festival and Harrah’s Club in Reno\, Nevada. In 2004\, Kim performed and facilitated with Micky Hart’s “Planet Drum” holding the groove for over 4000 drummers. This is now the Guinness World Record for the most people playing the same song.\nCurrently\, Kim teaches young children the wonders of Body Rhythm\, teaches high school students World Percussion music\, accompanies poets and kirtan singers\, leads his own Brazilian style parade group\, does freelance percussion work\, teaches West African Music\, takes people on vision quests to Havasupai AZ\, and is learning to play new instruments\, including acoustic guitar and the most challenging drum in the world : East Indian Tabla. \nRachel Balunsat is a Visionary Abstract artist. She studied Las Bellas Arts at La Universidad de Granada and UCSC. But she fell uninspired as the world got more chaotic. Eventually she became a student of Tibetan Buddhism and after several long retreats\, Rachel finally felt a calling to paint Buddhas and Goddesses from her heart and was re-inspired. She was blessed with the name Dolma\, Tibetan name for Green Tara\, by her Lama. Soon after\, Studying with Visionary painter Amanda Sage sent her into a cathartic soul portrait which unleashed yet another direction following inner guidance. Dolma’s paintings have now become abstract renderings of her inner world expressing itself through color and movement\, spontaneity and playfulness.

SUMMARY:Andrew Duhon
DESCRIPTION:ANDREW DUHON: \nIt was Leo Tolstoy who said “All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a\njourney or a stranger comes to town\,” and in the case of Andrew Duhon and his latest album\nEmerald Blue\, both instances are true. Duhon temporarily left New Orleans\,his longtime\nhome and musical muse in 2019\, finding himself inspired by the landscape of the Pacific\nNorthwest and notably\, its colors\n—  a hue he describes as ‘emerald blue’ for which the album is named\, the same shade looking back at him in his partner’s eyes. Had he overlooked the specific shade of her eyes while living below sea level? Or did the change of location open his mind more acutely? The record does just that: examine the familiar in the context of theunfamiliar.  Emerald Blue is a probing appreciation of the dailiness of life; a note-takingexercise in living.Duhon channeled his new perspective into an eleven song collection\, calling on friends and\ncollaborators includingJano Rix\non drums\, percussion\, and harmonies;\nMyles Weeksonupright andelectric basses and harmonies; andDan Walkeron keys and accordion.Duhon returned South for the recording process\, finding comfort and creativity in Maurice\,Louisiana’s storied\nDockside Studioswith GRAMMYaward winning engineer andlongtime collaborat\nor of Andrew’s\,Trina Shoemaker\, to capture every inch of vibe andbeauty and texture each song had to offer. \n+ SUPPORT TBA \nDOORS: 8PM \nAGES: 21+ \nNO REFUNDS | ALL SALES FINAL

SUMMARY:Darrell Scott
DESCRIPTION:DARRELL SCOTT: \nMulti-Instrumentalist and Singer-Songwriter Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment\, taking the rote\, menial\, mundane\, and allowing it to be surreal\, ever poignant\, and candidly honest\, lilting\, blooming\, and resonating. The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world\, what is at stake here\, and our place in it. From there\, things only ramped up with literature and poetry endeavors while a student at Tufts University\, along with playing his way through life. This would never change. \nAfter recently touring with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band (2 years with each)\, and producing albums for Malcolm Holcomb and Guy Clark and being named “songwriter of the year” for both ASCAP and NSAI\, these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river\, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property and playing music. He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories\, and is as busy as always writing\, producing\, performing\, and just plain fully immersing himself in life. \nCareer Highlights:\nGrammy Nomination for Best Country Song – “Long Time Gone” Dixie Chicks 2003Grammy Nomination for Best Country Instrumental Performance – “The Second Mouse” 2001Americana 2007 Song of the Year – “Hank Williams’ Ghost”Rolling Stone Magazine listed Theatre of the Unheard as one of the 2003 Critics Top AlbumsASCAP Songwriter of the Year 2002NSAI Songwriter of the Year 2001 \n+ SUPPORT TBA \nDOORS: 7PM \nAGES: 21+ \nNO REFUNDS | ALL SALES FINAL
