SUMMARY:Flora & Fauna - 6 Week Watercolor Course
DESCRIPTION:In this 6 week course\, participants will learn a unique approach to watercolor\, intended to alleviate the frustration that many experience when learning this beautiful yet challenging medium. The class will focus on strengthening one’s observational skills\, giving the artist a foundation off of which to build their paintings in a step by step layering process\, that trains the artist to see value and color \nOur subjects will be flora and fauna – a sampling of plants and animals – fruits\, florals\, foliage\, and four legged friends. These subjects are great for beginners and experienced watercolor painters alike; their organic shapes make them forgiving drawing subjects\, but their beauty can be a muse for life. \nThis class will work from life and from photos\, practicing basic drawing skills in addition to watercolor technique. With six class sessions\, participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills and build muscle memory with a medium that often feels like it has a mind of its own. \nAll materials provided. \nLocation: 755 Petaluma Ave\, Sebastopol\, CA \nDates: 6 Sundays – May 17\, 24\, 31\, June 7\, 14\, 21 \nTime: 1 – 4 pm \nRegistration Fee: $300 \nAges: Adults \nSkill Level: All Levels

SUMMARY:Girl in a Box
DESCRIPTION:An evening of conversation with Paldrom Catharine Collins\, based on her memoir “Girl in a Box: Seeking Enlightenment as a Tibetan Buddhist Nun.” As a wide-eyed spiritual seeker from Oklahoma\, she sought enlightenment\, centered on the desire for transformation\, and the promises of the path. Paldrom will draw us into her search\, the pull of spiritual teachers and teachings\, and what began to emerge when the path no longer unfolded as expected.

SUMMARY:Meet and Greet at Copperfield's Books
DESCRIPTION:Meet and greet with local author Anja Woltman in celebration of her debut travel memoir – Geckos\, Incense and the Moon! \nDrop by our Sebastopol store on Saturday\, May 9 from 12:00-2:00pm to meet the author and get your book signed. \nAt 73\, the author sets off alone to spend a year living in a small beach village in Vietnam near her expat son—just as\, unexpectedly\, the pandemic begins. Drawn by her deep curiosity about Buddhist culture and Vietnamese life\, she arrives just before the borders close. What follows is a once-in-a-lifetime immersion into a world vastly different from her own.\nFrom navigating a foreign culture to riding out typhoons; from traveling to the Northern Highlands to enduring an unexpected hospital stay; from connecting with expats to simply finding joy in watching life unfold around her\, she shares her journey with honesty\, insight\, and humor. At the heart of the story is the bond with her son\, made more complex by his struggle with alcoholism\, and her attitude of embracing whatever comes her way.\nWith wisdom earned over a lifetime\, she reflects on the beauty of community\, resilience\, and finding peace later in life. This deeply personal travel memoir reveals how stepping out of one’s comfort zone can lead to the most unexpected and meaningful experiences—even at an older age. \nAuthor: Anja Woltman was born in The Hague\, Holland. Her early writing experience included contributing poetry and articles to her college newspaper\, where she also served as editor. After moving to the U.S. in 1971 through a Foreign Teachers Program\, she published an article in a Dutch weekly opinion magazine about American football—then a little-known element of U.S. culture in Europe. She took a break from writing while adapting to English but later honed her skills through writing poetry and professional writing.\nAnja and her husband raised two sons and built their own home in Vermont. After their divorce in 1994\, she relocated to Sonoma County\, California\, where she still lives. In addition to teaching\, Anja held leadership roles in nonprofit organizations\, serving as both Program Director and Executive Director. She is currently retired and has one grandchild.

SUMMARY:MovingWriting: Embodied Expressive Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In MovingWriting workshops\, we play with movement/dance and words to help us connect with our deep and creative selves\, in the company of a supportive circle. Giving voice to our own stories and witnessing the stories of others brings healing\, aliveness\, and connection with others. \nWe begin by moving to music in whatever way calls you. There’s no way to do this wrong! We then gather and write in response to an offered prompt. Then we dance a little more\, and write a little more\, and share our writing with each other along the way. No moving or writing experience is necessary. Bring a journal or notebook\, pens\, and a willingness to step into something new. \nLimited to 8 participants.

SUMMARY:Painting Produce - 6 Week Watercolor Course
DESCRIPTION:In this 6 week course\, participants will learn a unique approach to watercolor\, intended to alleviate the frustration that many experience when learning this beautiful yet challenging medium. The class will focus on strengthening one’s observational skills\, giving the artist a foundation off of which to build their paintings in a step by step layering process\, that trains the artist to see value and color \nOur unifying subject will be seasonal produce – fruits\, veggies and herbs. These subjects are great for beginners and experienced watercolor painters alike; their organic shapes make them forgiving drawing subjects\, but their beauty can be a muse for life. \nThis class will work from life\, practicing basic drawing skills in addition to watercolor technique. With six class sessions\, participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills and build muscle memory with a medium that often feels like it has a mind of its own.

SUMMARY:Sebastopol Rotary Club's Crab Feed
DESCRIPTION:Sebastopol Rotary to hold Annual Crab Feed on Feb. 14 with all proceeds going to the Mark Sell Teacher Grant Program \nThe Rotary Club of Sebastopol will hold its annual Crab Feed on February 14\, 2026\, at the Holy Ghost Hall on Mill Station Road in Sebastopol. \nFor the past twenty-three years\, the Crab Feed has raised almost $460\,000 for grants to West County teachers. Since the grant program’s inception\, there have been 1371 grants that have enhanced instruction and improved classrooms. We are proud of what the grants have accomplished\, from providing supplemental reading and math materials\, to creating student magazines\, to providing 3-D printers and much more. \nOne thing all the grants have in common: Great teachers who have had terrific ideas to improve learning\, but who were stymied because there was not money in their school’s budget to support them. If they wanted something\, they would have had to pay out of their own pockets. We are delighted by being able to tell those teachers to keep their own money in their pockets; we’re happy to provide the funds instead. \nThe Club prides itself on the quality of the crab and wine\, but the best part of the night is that for the price of a good meal\, you’ve supported our kids and teachers. \nThere are two seatings for the Crab Feed: 5pm and 7pm. The meal begins with clam chowder and then moves on to the feast of consuming some 1600 pounds of the freshest crab. Wine is included in the price. \nBut there is more…. There is a great band\, the Luv Rustlers\, who will whip up a storm of joyful noise in the outer reception room. And\, while enjoying the music\, guests can view the product of the Crab Feed Art Contest\, which any TK to twelfth grade West County student can enter if their school is participating. Last year\, there were over 400 entries\, showing real talent among our children. \nClub President Kathy Hicks calls the Crab Feed “the best night of our year\, when people can have a great time for a great cause.” \nTickets are available on the Sebastopol Rotary website\, sebastopolrotary.com\, or you can call 408-431-7820. \nThe ticket price is $85 per person. ($90 after 1/31/26) \nFor further information about this press release\, contact Cindy Carter\, cindycarterflamm@yahoo.com or 408-431-7820

SUMMARY:Imposter Syndrome Songwriter Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We understand all too well what it’s like to live with a bully. They don’t have to be in the same room\, or even the same state to incite fear that keeps us looking over our shoulders. \nAll of us have an inner harasser standing at the ready to dress us down as soon as we get into a creative flow. \nWhy are you even singing? You don’t sound like ____. \nDon’t write about ____\, you’ll sound ridiculous. \nDon’t even try that! You’ll never do it as well as ____. \nMaybe yours is meaner\, or so subtle that you’re not even aware of all the things you might try if an invisible editor wasn’t keeping you from thinking outside the box. \nOn Saturday\, February 7th\, you’re invited to a workshop where WE’LL be the ones dressing down the inner critic! \nThrough writing prompts and sharing\, the sneaky nature of our particular style of bully will become clear. We’ll highlight craft tools that give us the superpower to disarm any shade our internal or external\, real-life critics throw at us. \nParticipants are asked to bring a song they’ve felt hesitant or unsure about to be used in real-time demonstrations of how our inner critic tools work in action.
