SUMMARY:Introduction to Drawing Portraits From Photos (3 Session Class)
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Drawing Portraits from Photos \nNovember 4th\, 11th\, and 18th \n6:00-9:00pm \n$150.00 + $15.00 Materials Fee = $165.00 \nAge Restricted to 18+ \nAbout this class: \nIn this three week course\, students will learn and practice observational skills and fundamental drawing techniques while learning the basics of drawing portraits from photographs. \nDrawing human faces requires the same basic drawing skills that one employs for any subject – observing proportion\, flattening shapes\, and utilizing line or value to convey volume. But the conceptual weight of human faces tends to intimidate artists. When drawing any subject\, the hardest skill is simply learning to see\, a skill that anyone can be taught\, practice\, and hone. This course will focus on the practice of looking\, and discovering strategies to find objectivity when rendering portraits. \nThis class is for anyone who wants to practice and advance their drawing skills – beginners\, those who haven’t practiced in years\, or any artists who just want to learn new techniques and practice their skills with consistent feedback and guidance. Through demonstration\, practice\, and reflective discussion\, this class will explore the foundations of rendering human expression with classical drawing techniques in a low pressure environment. \nObservational drawing gives all artists a foundation of practical knowledge and skills that infinitely expands the possibilities of what one can create. If your ideas feel limited by your drawing skills\, if you feel frustrated or stuck in your painting practice\, or if you simply want to start drawing and are looking for a place to start\, this is the class for you. \nAbout the Instructor: Hannah Day received her BA in Visual Arts with an emphasis on drawing and printmaking from University of San Diego\, then attended University of Hawaii at Manoa to receive her MFA in printmaking. Hannah’s etchings have been internationally shown and collected\, but her art practice also includes paper cutting\, graphite\, and watercolor. She has taught all ages in many mediums. These days\, Hannah primarily teaches watercolor\, observational drawing\, and paper cutting. You can view her work at www.hannahdrawstrees.com
