DESCRIPTION:BODY PRAYER IS A FACILITATED EVENT DEVOTED TO INQUIRY INTO EMBODIED CONSCIOUSNESS THROUGH MOVEMENT. \nThis class is offered every Sunday morning\, and led by Zuza Engler or another teacher. It is usually attended by a vibrant & diverse bunch of welcoming and friendly people\, some of whom have practiced Soul Motion® for years\, while some ~ never before. \nWhat to expect \nGuidance and structure are part of every week’s class as we travel across the four landscapes of Soul Motion®:\nDance Infinite (prayer space)\nDance Community (ensemble)\nDance Communion (duet)\nDance Intimate (solo) \nPractices\, structures\, and points of view are offered to facilitate the journey. Participants are invited to travel across all landscapes\, not just their favorite one: dancing by oneself\, in duet\, in ensemble with several people and eventually the whole room\, or witnessing in stillness the beauty of another’s or of everyone’s dance. \nBody Prayer offers a place to be safely uncomfortable as we experiment with ourselves and with each other in our awkward and magnificent dance at the edge of possibility. \nNo experience necessary! SUMMARY:The Art of Paste Paper
DESCRIPTION:Paste paper is one of the oldest decorated papers used by bookbinders\, and can be found in books that are centuries old. Hundreds of years ago (a tradition that continues today)\, bookbinders would sometimes use up their leftover bookbinding paste by adding pigment to the mixture and brushing it out on surfaces to make decorative papers used in bookbinding. They would make strokes or stipple patterns with a brush in the paste\, or use tools to draw or comb designs in the paper and then let it dry. \nOne of the distinctive qualities of paste paper is the rich 3-dimensional patterns and designs. This is achieved because when the paste is first applied to the paper and a pattern is made\, the paste is thick with peaks and valleys. As the paper dries\, the paste is sucked flat into the paper\, leaving a 3-dimensional pattern on a 2-dimensional surface. \nDuring this workshop students will learn about the history of paste paper. Together we will look at different samples and use different kinds of paste and tools to create decorative paper. This fun class focuses on color blending\, textures\, and graphic design on paper for artistic use in a variety of book arts or collage-focused art projects. Anything but ordinary\, this is a hands-on class where participants will create beautiful custom decorative papers by applying colored starch paste to paper and manipulating it with tools to create patterns. Students will learn different recipes for making paste\, how to create tools for mark making\, and each individual will take home a full suite of papers made in this single session. \nThis special workshop welcomes beginners\, and artists of all levels. The instructor will offer guided instruction in a supportive learning environment with a limited class size. The class materials fee will include paper and all the tools needed to create each of these projects. \nPlease note that since the papers need to dry before they can be safely taken home\, students should arrange a time for later pick-up from our studio.

SUMMARY:Flora & Fauna - Watercolor Course with Hannah Day at Bohemian Flowers Farm
DESCRIPTION:In this 4 week course\, participants will learn a unique approach to watercolor\, intended to alleviate the frustration that many experience when learning this beautiful yet challenging medium. The class will focus on strengthening one’s observational skills\, giving the artist a foundation off of which to build their paintings in a step by step layering process\, that trains the artist to see value and color \nOur subject matter will be flora and fauna – a sampling of plants and animals. These subjects are great for beginners and experienced artists alike; their organic shapes make them forgiving drawing subjects\, but their beauty can be a muse for life. \nThis class will work both from photographs and from life\, practicing observational drawing in addition to watercolor technique.
