SUMMARY:An Afternoon of Poetry with Cole Swensen & Kit Robinson
DESCRIPTION:North Bay Letterpress Arts is thrilled to be hosting an afternoon of readings with poets Cole Swensen and Kit Robinson. \nPlease reserve your space as our seating is limited! \nCole Swensen is the author of more than twenty books of poetry\, including Gravesend\, Ours\, Landscapes on a Train\, and And And And. She has also published a collection of hybrid essays\, Art in Time\, and a volume of criticism\, Noise That Stays Noise. A Guggenheim Fellow\, Swensen is the recipient of the Paul Engle Prize\, the Iowa Poetry Prize\, and the San Francisco State Poetry Center Book Award. Her work as a translator from the French has been widely recognized\, earning the PEN USA Award in Translation\, the ALTA National Translation Award\, and the Stephen Mitchell Prize. \nKit Robinson is the author of numerous books of poetry spanning several decades\, including The Messianic Trees\, Train I Ride\, The Crave\, and Thought Balloon. A long-standing figure in the Bay Area poetry community\, his work has appeared in a wide range of journals and anthologies\, and he has been associated with the Language writing movement while maintaining a distinct and evolving body of work. Robinson has been recognized for his sustained contributions to contemporary American poetry and his active role in literary communities. \nLight refreshments\, including Pax wines and Retrograde Roasters coffee & tea\, and fantastic poetry served in equal measure \nBeautiful letterpress broadsides of poets’ work available with a donation to NBLA \nThis reading brings together two accomplished and wide-ranging poetic voices for an afternoon of shared work and conversation. DESCRIPTION:Adopted by a Cherokee Father\, Robert became friends and collaborator with Rod McKuen\, Carrie Fisher and Arthur M. Young. Young authored ‘The Reflective Universe: Evolution of Consciousness’ and “the Geometry of Meaning” among many others. He then worked with Jay Beckwith and Carlos Santana. \nRobert will describe his life-long interest and research into the ancient ‘Wisdom’ cultures and civilizations of the past and then translate this into something that can be applied to the challenges of modern life and its abstract nature. \nThis includes the wisdom teachings of various cultures including: the majesty of the American Indian civilization\, the sages of ancient China\, Aboriginal culture\, along with the Huna and Toltec civilizations. This is presented in the context of sacred geometry and modern life\, mythology\, numerology\, radionics\, electronic medicine\, holistic health and quantum physics.

Throughout this year\, he is traveling across the nation educating on the food and medicine that is growing freely and abundantly all around us. He is here to support us on our journey of living more closely connected with Earth and to build up the foraging community. \nJoin us for a Foraging Walk in Sebastopol to learn how to safely and sustainably forage the common edible and medicinal plants that most of us pass by without even knowing! \nRobin will introduce you to: \n– 10+ common edible and medicinal plants growing in your area\n– How to safely forage\n– How to harvest sustainably and be a friend to the plants\n– Simple strategies for successful foraging \nThis event is accessible to all\, regardless of experience.
