SUMMARY:Hand-made Gifts: Create Your Own Heirloom Pendant!
DESCRIPTION:Located in the Painting/Drawing Studio at SebArts\nDo you enjoy creating hand-made gifts for your loved ones? Learn how to work with beautiful vitreous (glass) enamel colors fired on fine silver and set in sterling silver. We will texture (using stamps) and dome fine silver discs. Enamel will be applied to the surface by wet packing the enamels (a mixture of water and enamel powder).\nIt takes several firings to build and blend your colors and 24k gold foil can be incorporated. The enamel jewels will be set in sterling settings with the possible addition of gemstones to create a unique pendant or earrings that will become Heirloom Jewels.\nThe enamel kiln is courtesy of a grant by the Enamellist Society.\nAbout the Instructor:\nAnita Selinger has an art education degree from New York University and a jewelry design degree from Fashion Institute of Technology. For 45 years she has supported herself using modelmaking\, enameling\, and fabrication skills to create one-of-a-kind custom orders and limited-edition jewelry. Teaching for 40 years has been a great pleasure for her as she treasures the enthusiasm of her students as they create. Her workshops include wax modeling and enameling taught in her studio in Santa Rosa\, the Crafts Students League in NYC\, Chimera Arts in Sebastopol\, and the Mendocino Art Center. SUMMARY:Oil and Cold Wax Techniques
DESCRIPTION:Cold wax medium has become very popular because of it’s ability to extend and add body to oil paint\, it’s ability to speed up drying time\, increase transparency and workability. It also doesn’t require any special set up or ventilation\, and allows you to build up very exciting textural effects and layers.\nThis course is for beginners through intermediate students (though advanced students are welcome too). I am used to running multi-level workshops that serve everyone’s needs and goals.\nSpecifically this workshop will cover:\nCWM/Oil how to’s: proportions\, solvents\, mediums\, surfaces to use\, Tools and how to use them effectively: Brayers\, silicone tools\, brushes\, palette knives\nTechniques covered: Foundational layers for optimal results\, Techniques and decision making through the rest of your layers: Texture imprints\, Using RF pigment sticks\, Dry pigment and how to use it safely\, Adding collage\, Dry mark making and mark making in general\, Glazing and veils of color\, Composition guidelines to help you when you get stuck\, Color theory and color mixing to take some of the guess work out of what to choose next\nWhat you’ll come away with:\nConfidence in how to best work with the medium\, An understanding of the process of working in CWM/Oil from start to finish\, A stronger understanding of composition and color\, An ability to avoid common pitfalls like muddy color\, overly opaque surfaces\, How to reference a photo and how to work with no source image\nAndrea’s Workshop Philosophy\nEven though working intuitively is a blast\, it comes with it’s challenges. My aim is to help you keep your intuition alive and well\, while also giving you the tools and technique to be able to step back from what you’re creating and make informed decisions.\nBeyond the pure technical aspects of CWM/oil\, having a few composition tools up your sleeve will give you the ability to answer the questions I hear so often from students: Where do I go from here? Something is off with this painting\, but what is it? Is this painting finished? What color should I choose for the next layer?\nThink how great it will feel to have so much confidence in your own process that you can stand back at any moment and know what your painting needs and why.\nI help you see when it’s time to PLAY and when and how to stand back to move forward. The combination of intuition\, play and\, technical understanding and analysis is what helps you build up consistent skill.\nAbout the Instructor: Andrea Wedell has been painting and exhibiting her work for thirty years in the US and Europe. Her training is in fine art\, teaching and coaching. DESCRIPTION:Directed by Sarah Dupre\, the Acorn MusEcology Project is 20-voice choral ensemble sharing music that explores our collective role as caretakers in our relationship with the Earth\, with our animal and plant brethren\, and living systems—toward the rediscovery\, healing\, and reimagining of a vibrant planet beyond our own time. In our 2023 fall concert series\, we pair songs sharing a common subject or lyricist\, with original and selected settings of poems by Kim Stafford\, Kathleen Lynch\, Jane Kenyon\, Dana Gioia\, and Terry Tempest Williams.
