SUMMARY:Hand-made Gifts: Create Your Own Heirloom Pendant!
DESCRIPTION:Located in the Painting/Drawing Studio at SebArts\nDo you enjoy creating hand-made gifts for your loved ones? Learn how to work with beautiful vitreous (glass) enamel colors fired on fine silver and set in sterling silver. We will texture (using stamps) and dome fine silver discs. Enamel will be applied to the surface by wet packing the enamels (a mixture of water and enamel powder).\nIt takes several firings to build and blend your colors and 24k gold foil can be incorporated. The enamel jewels will be set in sterling settings with the possible addition of gemstones to create a unique pendant or earrings that will become Heirloom Jewels.\nThe enamel kiln is courtesy of a grant by the Enamellist Society.\nAbout the Instructor:\nAnita Selinger has an art education degree from New York University and a jewelry design degree from Fashion Institute of Technology. For 45 years she has supported herself using modelmaking\, enameling\, and fabrication skills to create one-of-a-kind custom orders and limited-edition jewelry. Teaching for 40 years has been a great pleasure for her as she treasures the enthusiasm of her students as they create. Her workshops include wax modeling and enameling taught in her studio in Santa Rosa\, the Crafts Students League in NYC\, Chimera Arts in Sebastopol\, and the Mendocino Art Center. SUMMARY:Ukraine Animal Rescue Benefit - THE FIRE CATS Save Something Small
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\nSEPTEMBER 25\, 2023\nCONTACT: ROXANNE GOODFELLOW 415-860-3414\nSONOMA COUNTY ANIMAL RESCUE AGENCIES BAND TOGETHER\nFOR HACHIKO FOUNDATION UKRAINE BENEFIT\nThe major animal welfare/rescue agencies of Sonoma County have joined together\nfor a benefit screening of Katharine Parson’s award-winning film\, THE FIRE CATS – Save Something Small at RIALTO CINEMAS on Saturday 7 October and Sunday 8 October at 1:00 P.M.\nHACHIKO FOUNDATION animal rescue an NGO based in Eastern Ukraine will be the beneficiary.\nForgotten Felines of Sonoma County\, The Humane Society of Sonoma County\, Sonoma County Animal Control and Care and Sonoma CART will hold a panel discussion POST-SCREENING regarding the coordination of animal rescue efforts during natural/manmade disasters\, lessons learned from wildfire disasters and the concerted desire to create a roadmap for communities/animals.\nThe war in Ukraine continues apace and the destruction of all infrastructure for animal rescue is overwhelming.  Rialto Cinemas has previously sponsored two benefits for Ukraine –  Ambulances For Ukraine through MIRA ACTION and ROOTS OF PEACE\, a non-profit focused on landmine clearing.\nRialto Cinemas CEO Ky Boyd\, believes “the work of HACHIKO FOUNDATION coupled with the extraordinary work of Sonoma County animal welfare/rescue agencies highlights that the devastation caused by wildfires and war carries a common denominator – pets and people are interdependent and the love they share is universal.”\n-more-\nPg. 2 – FIRECATS/HACHIKO Benefit\nUkraine based HACHIKO FOUNDATION https://www.instagram.com/hachikoua/?hl=enhttps://www.facebook.com/100088825096136/videos/783301493322520?so=permalink is an NGO animal rescue formed shortly after the war began\, their work is focused on helping the displaced pets on the frontline in Ukraine.\nA key member of the HACHIKO FOUNDATION team is Nate Mook\, former CEO of Jose’ Andres World Central Kitchen (WCK).  Through his work with WCK\, Nate was working in Ukraine setting up infrastructure to feed thousands of people impacted by the war; in August 2023 he stepped out of that role deciding to use his knowledge and experience to tackle another life saving endeavor: feeding and caring for domestic animals left homeless by the Russian invasion. \nNate became a key-member of the HACHIKO FOUNDATION; and through this work and the magic of social media the HACHIKO FOUNDATION came to the attention of local Sonoma County animal welfare/rescue agencies.\nIn a joint statement the local Sonoma County agencies voice their commitment and support to HACHIKO FOUNDATION: \n“Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County\, Sonoma County Animal Services\, Humane Society of Sonoma County and Sonoma CART are proud to support HACHIKO’s work feeding animals in need in Ukraine. We are all committed to helping animals in distress\, and we believe that HACHIKO is doing vital work in Ukraine\, where so many animals have been displaced by the war.\nHACHIKO’s innovative work delivering food to animals that would otherwise go hungry is incredibly important\, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support them. Together\, we can make a difference for animals in need in Ukraine.”\nHACHIKO FOUNDATION provides animals with food\, shelter\, feeding stations and medication in the most war-torn areas in Eastern Ukraine; most recently they were a major agency supplying people and pets with food/water/medicine when the Kakhovka Dam in Dnipro\, Kershon Oblast was destroyed. The flooding caused thousands of people to flee their homes as hundreds of pets/animals were lost or displaced.  Due to the suddenness of the flood there was no time to prepare\, much like the wildfires experienced here in California. \nThere’s no end to the war in sight so Nate Mook & HACHIKO FOUNDATION remain committed to the animals and people of Ukraine. “I know the important role pets play for emotional support\,” Mook says. “The pets are so connected culturally to the Ukrainian people and to this war.”\nTickets are now on sale at Rialto Cinemas: https://rialtocinemas.com/coming-soon/the-fire-cats/?noamp=avail\n###\nCalendar/Social Media Listing\n THE FIRE CATS – Save Something Small is screening at Rialto Cinemas Sonoma County on SAT October 7th and SUN October 8th @ 1:00 P.M. as a benefit for HACHIKO FOUNDATION animal rescue located in UKRAINE.  There will be a panel discussion post-screening with Sonoma County welfare/recue agencies: \n Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County: https://www.forgottenfelines.com\nHumane Society of Sonoma County: https://humanesocietysoco.org  \nSonoma County Animal Control and Care: https://sonomacounty.ca.gov/health-and-human-services/health-services/divisions/public-health/animal-services\nSonoma CART: https://www.sonomacart.org/\n Tickets are now on sale at https://rialtocinemas.com/coming-soon/the-fire-cats/?noamp=avail\n ###

SUMMARY:Sebastopol Community Garden Volunteer Work Party
DESCRIPTION:The Sebastopol Climate Action Committee is working on a project to revitalize the Sebastopol Community Garden. We are planning a work party on Oct 8 from 10am to 1pm to continue the revitalization project we began last spring. \nThe spring work party really made a difference. Volunteers scraped out the existing path\, weeded and pruned making the garden much more inviting. The city was able to rent out more of the garden boxes but there is more maintenance to attend to and more boxes to be rented out. \nWe hope to have enough workers on Oct.8 to weed\, prune\, spread compost from the Compost Give Away around the fruit trees and scrape weeds from the path. We also hope to bring a sander and paint to restore the picnic table under the roof. \nWe would welcome volunteer groups or individuals to help us any time between 10am and 1pm. Volunteers can bring gloves and any tools they may have such as shovels(flat and pointed)\, loppers\, pruners\, etc. \nOur group can be reached at sebastopolsinkscarbon@gmail.com\nPlease bring your reusable water bottle and snacks for yourself
