“Unconditional” – A Documentary about Pets & Sebastopol Nonprofit Ruthless Kindness

A Sebastopol-based veterinarian journeys throughout Sonoma and Napa Counties, providing free animal care to help domestic violence survivors and their pets escape abuse together. Meet Mikko, who endured domestic violence for years, but had her dog as a source of unconditional love and strength. There is an underreported barrier preventing survivors from escaping their abusive partners and bringing their beloved animals with them. Witness veterinarian Dr. Sarah Reidenbach as she journeys to meet survivors and their pets in a retrofitted ambulance, attempting to eliminate that barrier and shed light on the importance of the human-animal bond in crisis situations.

Created by the UC Berkeley School of Journalism, the film’s creators will be present at the screening, as well as the founders of non-profit Ruthless Kindness. The 22 minute film will be followed by a Q&A with the founders. Enjoy the Rialto’s large food and wine menu while you watch and support a good cause.
