A 500, 000 gallon Rainwater Cistern is near completion at Salmon
Creek School in Occidental. A prime goal of the cistern is to help
improve creek flows during the dry months for salmon. An equally
important goal is to improve water resiliency at the school. With
droughts longer and winter water arriving buckets via atmospheric rivers,
capturing rainwater in cisterns is one way to store the abundance for times of
deficiency.
John Green ,Lead scientist & Program manager at Gold
Ridge Resource Conservation District, will share about how
rainwater cisterns are being deployed in the Salmon Creek Habitat
to restore creek flows along with the design process & features of
the Salmon Creek School cistern. We’ll also explore how
rainwater cisterns could be utilized in other settings, such as
homes. Water is life. How much and when it is available to us and our area
habitat is changing. Rainwater cisterns are another tool as we learn to adapt to the
impacts of climate change.
No cost to attend, but please RSVP to reserve a seat. Donations welcome. Register here. http://www.rahus.org/scc
