Individuals and organizations strongly rooted in “free-market fundamentalism”, an economic philosophy going back to Friedrich Hayek in the 1940s, began a conscious campaign to undermine climate science. As the story goes, cold warriors without communists to fight turned their fire and wrath on environmentalism. Heavily influenced by Ayn Randers and backed by powerful and wealthy interests, they began to spread doubt in order to stop any regulation of the environment.
